The institute is a world-leading centre of biomedical research and innovation. Its research groups are now beginning to move into a new state-of-the-art building, featuring an extraordinary roof screening solution.
The building is equipped with a vast array of specialist, highly sensitive plant and equipment, much of it located at roof level.
To satisfy planning requirements, it was necessary to limit the visual impact of the building, particularly at high level, as it overlooks St. Pancras International Station, the British Library and housing in the Somers Town area of Camden.

It involved replacing a 50-year-old shopping centre with a new mixed-use development, including a large multi-storey car park which is clad with a distinctive screening solution.


The Walbrook Building in central London is an ultra-modern office building, which appears impressive, even when viewed from above, thanks to a roof screening solution.


The award-winning, £42 million Vijay Patel Building at De Montfort University in Leicester combines several structural elements, each distinguished by a contrasting, yet highly effective external solar shading and screening solution, courtesy of Levolux.
The solution includes a diverse range of products, including curved Aerofoil Fins, faux terracotta Fins, PV integrated Glass Fins and plant screening louvres. These have been applied differently on the building’s three main structures.
The eleven-storey, 1960’s built Arts Tower has been comprehensively refurbished and now benefits from laminated Glass Fins, incorporating building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology.
